Have you ever noticed how we tend to gravitate towards confident people? We also generally trust those who are confident in themselves. Confidence is about feeling sure of yourself. The way you dress and present yourself determines your level of confidence. Here are 7 tips for dressing confidently everyday, whatever the occasion.
1. Know your body type

We all come in different shapes and sizes. Different body types suit different clothing cuts and styles. There are several body types as shown in the illustration above. It helps to know yours as this will help you pick outfits that flatter your frame.
2. Choose your colours wisely

Certain colours will complement your skin tone in amazing ways. This is is why you should pick them wisely. Knowing your skin tone will help you select shades that will look great against your skin.
There are warm, neutral and cool skin tones. The easiest way to find yours is to turn your palm towards you and examine the colour of the veins in your wrist.
Blue veins mean you are cool toned. If they are green you are warm toned. If they match your complexion, you have neutral undertones. Certain colours work well with particular skin tones.
3. Show off your best features

If you’ve got it, flaunt it. Identify your best features or ask a friend to point them out to you.
When you know your winning features, select clothing that accentuates them. You might have a small waist or well-toned arms. Go for clothes that show these off. This will definitely add an air of confidence to your style and people will notice that you know what you’ve got.
Likewise, if you’ve got beautiful legs, wear dresses or skirts that show them in a good light or even skinny jeans. There are so many ways to show off your best features.
4. Dress appropriately for the occasion

Being overdressed or underdressed can make you appear like you lack confidence in your dress sense. Dressing confidently is about looking presentable without trying too hard.
For example, if you have to do the school run, wearing heels and a suit might look like you are trying too hard unless you are going into the office straight after. Instead, opt for a smart casual or relaxed look.
If you’ve been invited to an event, be sure to find out what the dress code for the occasion is. Sometimes the dress code maybe unclear. If that’s the case, do your research by asking friends, your stylist or checking guides on how to dress for them.
5. Take time to plan your outfits

Another way to dressing more confidently is to plan what you are wearing in advance. I know a lot of people don’t do this and just leave it to the last minute. That used to be me and believe me it wastes a lot of time.
Planning your clothes ahead gives you time to check if they work or not. You make better choices when you have time to properly examine your outfits. You can even iron or steam them in advance and have them ready to put on the next day. This means less stress, no rushing and more confidence.
6. Only go for trends that work for you

There is nothing wrong with keeping up to date with trends. However, you should never let the trends wear you. Stick with items that work with your style. Avoid going for trendy items that don’t flatter your body type.
When going for trends pick wisely. Go for things that you will still want to wear even after the trend has faded. In a nutshell; go for classics. There are classic pieces that trend every season. Look out for theses and you will never go wrong.
7. Smile
As cliché as it sound, one of the best accessories you can wear to allow you confidence to shine through is your smile. A smile is one of the biggest indicators of a confident person.
Dressing more confidently doesn’t need to be complicated. Try the tips above and start carrying yourself more confidently wherever you go.
